A:Yes. A dial volume control , an on off switch, and you can close it for a lower sound(less bass).

Q: Will this work for a kindle fire hd?

A:I don't have a Kindle Fire HD so I don't know, but I've been using this with my ipod, computer, portable CD player and phone. It sounds loud & clear. I also love that it's portable because of its size so I use this little speakers more than any other larger speakers at home.
